My First Lesson Back

My First Lesson Back

January 21, 2025, yesterday, was the six week mark for my recovery. To celebrate, I did my first lesson with Coach since my surgery. We took it very easy, with limited movement, and frequent breaks. All in all, it was just over an hour. I am NOT ready to fence, but I am ready to slowly start to train. I could feel the incision areas pulling and moving.

Today, I had some pain in those areas. The pain was not increased, but it was more consistent than it has been. I have had that pinch in my side for a bit. In reviewing my discharge, it indicated that I should still be experiencing pain at six weeks, but the pain should be manageable with, at most, over the counter Tylenol used to manage it. I’ve avoided taking any medication for several weeks unless absolutely necessary. So, I think I am on track. The lesson brought the pain again, but it was certainly manageable. I’m confident that if I needed to take meds for it, a single Tylenol would be sufficient.

In fact, on the day after, while I could feel the pain consistently, I ran some errands, including lifting some heavy objects. OK, well, a heavy bag of dog food, but still. I am looking to schedule another lesson two days after the first. We will see.

I have a CT scan tomorrow to make sure the pain in my side is normal. Once that is done, I will be looking to schedule another lesson with Coach tomorrow afternoon. Fortunately, I am still on leave for two more weeks. So, I have some time to manage my schedule back.

I’m a Fencer

I am a vet fencer. On December 9, 2024, I donated a kidney to my brother. This blog is the information I have gained in the recovery process and on my way back to national and international competition.
