OK, so it has been a couple of months. My training just stopped. Every time I started, some new pain came up requiring a take a break for a couple of weeks. I finally just travelled the 7 hours to Cincinnati and got a new battery of tests to make sure everything was ok. That included labs, CT, and physical examination with the original surgeon. So, it turns out that not only was I not ready to get back to every day life at eight weeks as they told me, but heavy weight training has to be put on hold for at least a year. The area around the incisions are still too susceptible to strain and tears. This is . . . again . . . contrary to what they initially told me. I kind of feel like they either fabricated a reality to get me to donate, or just did not listen to me when I told them, repeatedly, about the nature of my training. I would have donated the kidney anyway. Without any delay and without any question. Mentally, though, it would have been nice if they simply told me I would be out for a year.
That being said, I am ready to start back to training now. There is some pain from the weightlifting activities a month ago. So, I will work around that. For now, I intend to train legs and arms, cardio through running, cycling, and footwork, two lessons a week, and, to start, three fencing sessions. I will work up from that.
To make this work, I am using Garmin, Whoop, and Training Peaks. I am also contemplating a video log in case I actually make the team some day. If not, I’ll burn it . . . repeatedly.
